OLDE ENGLISH BULLDOGGES

(OEB)

Olde English Bulldogge originated in England between the 1600s -1700s. The OEB are the early ancestors to most of the Bull breeds that exist today. This does also include the English Bulldog and American Bulldog.

The Olde English Bulldogge were bred to participate in blood sports like bull baiting. This sport became popular through out England in the mid 18th Century.

Olde English Bulldogges is a dog of great courage and agility. This was great for bullbaiting. OEB's are of medium stature. The larger dogs were considered to be the results of mastiff crosses.

Around 1835, there were laws passed in England prohibiting bull baiting and the OEB's mains purpose of existing went away.

The modern Olde English Bulldogge is a reconstruction of the original OEB of the 17th and 18th century.

The foundation of most of today's OEB can be traced to English Bulldog, American Bulldog, APBT and mastiffs.

These mixtures of dog breeds were used selectively in many combinations to create the desired physical traits of the original Olde English Bulldogge.
